Couple of Congrats to start with -
Congrats to our JC footballers who won their East Cork championship final last Wednesday night. They defeated Glenville on a 0-16 v 1-6 scoreline and well done to all involved
Massive congratulations also to Roisin Phelan who earlier this month collected an All-Star in Ladies football after her superb performances for Cork Senior ladies in their march to this years All-Ireland final. Its a superb achievement to achieve such an honour, so well done to Roisin and the Phelan family.
A number of upcoming events that need mentioning -
The annual Tony Ahern long puc will take place in Whitegate on St Stephens day at 10:30am. This fundraiser for our juvenile club is always a very enjoyable day out. Anyone aged 8 to 80 plus is welcome to partake on the day.
The long Kick then follows on New Years day. Again it all starts in Whitegate village. This time at 2pm. And again this ladies football fundraiser is always a family fun event.
Another good way of exercising off the excess from the holidays will be a walk on the peoples path in celebration of Charlie McCarthy. Its coming up on one year since Charlie was taken from us in such a tragic manner. On Sunday the 30th of December, Charlie's family and friends will gather to remember Charlie and celebrate his life. The walk will leave our GAA grounds in Rostellan and will go as far as the Pier and back (Or as far as you might want to go) Refreshments will be served in our clubhouse after the walk. All are more than welcome on the day.
Our Agm was held recently. Jimmy O'Leary was elected as chairman again for the coming year, as was Darren Lee (secretary) and John O'Neill(Treasurer). The most significant decision made on the night was the decision to regrade from Senior football down to the Premier Intermediate grade. After 27 years as a senior club, this was a sad occassion for Aghada, but the proposal to regrade went unchallenged on the night which shows just how difficult a time we have been having trying to compete at Senior over the last number of years.
