A Chara,

As the rain pours while I write this newsletter, the first course of action is to thank Timmy Long of ‘The Two Norries’ who gave an inspirational talk to our young players and their parents last Wednesday evening in Scartleigh National School on the many issues our young members face in their lives now. It was great to see such a big turnout from our players and parents who certainly took something home with them to think and talk about. Well done to our Healthy Club committee who organised this great worthwhile event. Finally, thanks to Scartleigh National School for the use of their beautiful hall.

Following on from the talk, our Healthy Club committee have provided the following numbers that may be useful to those who need them after listening to some of the topics discussed on the night. These are attached below.

Staying with the Healthy Club, please see the following message that has been sent to us from Killeagh GAA:

Good news - our Monthly Walks return next Sunday October 23rd with a beach walk from Claycastle to Plimore and back (or turn back when you've enough!). Meet at Claycastle Car Park (around centre of park where Lifeguard Hut is stationed during the Summer season) at 10.30 a.m.

We are joining with other Healthy Clubs in East Cork for this and future Monthly Walks, so hopefully we can all meet new and old friends on our Walks.

In advance of attending, please complete this simple form so we know who's coming. As always, spread the word, this walk is suitable for all ages.

Junior C Football:

Our Junior C Footballers had a great win against St Catherine’s on Tuesday night in Rostellan winning out on a score line of 16 points to 5. There were some very good performances across the pitch, but the standout performers came from our backs in the form of Shay Keane, Matty Leahy and the immense Alan Walsh. This was our lads second and final group game and after winning both contests, we progress to the semi-final of the East Cork championship with our opponents to be confirmed. While we wait for other games in other groups to be completed, we do have a league final against Midleton to play in this grade, with this match likely to be played in the next week or two. Make sure to keep an eye on social media for this fixture confirmation.

Aghada GAA/LGFA/Camogie Grinds:

Aghada GAA club are delighted to launch a new initiative of free grinds for our young club members. In our club we pride ourselves in helping our members on and off the pitch and this initiative will hopefully aid members who are preparing for their Leaving Certificate.

Between midterm break in October and Christmas it is hoped there will be 2 grinds on every week. This will mean every student will have the opportunity to attend 16 free grinds between now and Christmas (subject to demand and numbers). We have a number of local teachers who will give grinds in several subjects including Maths, English, Irish, Business, PE, Economics etc. These grinds will take place down in Aghada GAA’s clubhouse.

This initiative is open to all members of Aghada GAA, Aghada LGFA and Aghada Camogie who are doing their leaving cert in June 2023.

If your son or daughter is interested in availing of some of these grinds or would like more information, please text Vince Rohan on 085 1938088. Please give your child’s name on the text. Once we have all names gathered, we will then organise a timetable of grinds for the coming weeks. Please reply with your expression of interest by 9pm on Monday the 24th of October.

(Please note that this initiative is subject to demand).

Well done:

Well done to Willie Wallis and his officials who took charge of the premier junior hurling county final last Saturday in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. A thoroughly deserved achievement Willie. Congratulations.

A big shoutout too to Ronan Dwane who was an integral part of Ballygiblin’s management team last weekend. Ronan was kept busy over the weekend as he joined Anthony Cashman in the rain soaked Páirc on Sunday to celebrate the Imokilly county hurling winning sides from 97 and 98. Well done to Anthony, Ronan and also Pat Cashman who was a member of the team.

That’s it for this week. Our U15 hurlers play Bishopstown at 1pm in Rostellan today in the championship shield final so get down to support our up-and-coming stars of the future if you can. Best of luck lads!

Slán,

Uinsionn Ó Ruacháin
