Match Report - U15 Premier 2A Football – Aghada V Bishopstown

Our U15 footballers had their second 2A League game against a footballing stronghold of the city in Bishopstown. The Monday night game was held on the main pitch in Rostellen, the pitch is a credit to our fantastic grounds team as it allowed for a fast-paced game.  It has been a few weeks since this team last comprehensive win over Bandon, however the lack of game time has not impacted the way this team plays. One on looker compared the style of football from the Aghada men to the Brazilian football teams of the 1950’s & 60’s and their Ginga style. The team secured another win, with a final score line of 9-21 to 1-05

The management team were in a great position of picking for a strong panel and were able to start the same line up from the Bandon game, however some players were returning from injury or sickness. This didn’t seem to impact any of the players, who were all eager to get on the ball.

Once again Thomas Land was excellent between the posts and ensured his defensive team of Jack Corkery, Lachlan Greig, Ronan Murphy, Sean O’Callaghan, Donagh Collins and Kalem Keane were well on top. The midfield partnership of Oran Crowe and Conell Rooney were dominating the midfield encounters and were providing super-fast ball for the forwards to work off. The half forward line of Scott Whyte Shane Lewis and Michael Joseph were also in fine form. While the full forward line of Eoin Motherway, Fintan Cody and Jack Colbert were causing the Bishopstown backs all sorts of problems with their quick movement on and off the ball. Aghada closed the first half off well on top.

With the half time speech from team Manager Colin Rooney new team selector Matty O’Connor completed, the team started off the 2nd half the way they ended the 1st. With a fast moving, hard hitting style of play. Being in such a strong position the management started making some changes into the second half, which saw the introduction of Aaron Atkins, Sean Busteed and Isacc Merner. These players did very well when introduced for Scott Whyte, Jack Colbert and Eoin Motherway.

It was great to see such an impressive performance from this side and all the hard work on the training field is paying off. Here’s hoping for more of these results in the weeks and months ahead.
