Over the last few weeks we have had great success on the playing fields with 7 of our adult teams progressing to their respective championship knockout stages. A brief update on each team's progress is detailed below. Along with these crucial games, our club has been involved in a number of community events which have all been a fantastic success. Read more about these further down in the newsltter.
Adult Team Updates:
Premier Junior Camogie:
Our Premier Junior Camogie team have had a brilliant campaign to date and last Saturday they qualified for the County Final after a hard fought victory over Mallow in Castle Road Camogie Grounds. This is a huge achievement for our girls and they will face familiar opponent Bishopstown in the big final. Fixture details will be confirmed shortly so please keep an eye out for this fixture as they will need a huge support.
Senior Ladies Football:
Our Senior Ladies Football team have had an impressive campaign so far this year. Our girls won all four group games which means they now have a home County Semi Final this Sunday. They face formidable opposition in Mourneabbey so it is important that we get a huge support down to Rostellan to roar our girls on. The game throws in at 12 noon so please come down and support the team. Best of luck to all the players, Manager Eric Smith and his management team.
Premier Intermediate Football:
Our Premier Intermediate Footballers have also qualified for the knockout stages of their championship. The highlight of the campaign so far has been a fantastic victory over Bantry Blues in Kilmichael a few weeks ago. The lads lost out narrowly to Aghabullogue in their final group game but losing narrowly turned out to be key as our lads still progressed to the quarter final based on score difference and points scored. This is a major achievement for our young side and they will face Glanmire in the quarter final this Saturday in Lisgoold at 5pm. The lads will need a big performance here so please do support the team and management if you can in this vital game. Best of luck to all the players, Manager Mick Kiely and his management team.
Intermediate A Hurling:
Our Intermediate A Hurlers have had an unbeaten campaign in the championship so far. Our lads have performed really well in all their games and even more impressively had an array of different scorers in each game. Qualifying with five points was good enough to secure passage directly to the semi final of the competition which was a major boost for all concerned. The team now face Aghabullogue in the Semi Final at 4pm in Ballyanly (Inniscarra GAA) on Saturday the 4th of October. A huge game for the club so please come out and support the lads.
Junior A & Junior C Football:
Both our Junior Football teams have progressed out of their respective championship group stages. Our Junior A Footballers won 2 out of 3 games, with the win against Glenbower Rovers two weeks ago securing our place in the quarter final of the East Cork Championship. This is a huge achievement for this group as the side is backboned by 19 to 21 year olds. The team face Erin’s Own in the Quarter Final on Sunday at 3:30pm in Dungourney. Tickets for this one are cash only at the gate. Please make the effort to support the lads if you can. Best of luck to all the players, Manager John O'Connor and his management team.
Our Junior C Footballers also qualified from their group and face Castlelyons in the East Cork Semi Final on Friday night at 7:30pm in Castlelyons. The lads had a great win over Russell Rovers in their last game and will be hoping to bring this form into the big game on Friday night. Please make the trip to support the lads if you can. Best of luck to all the players, Manager Richie Condon and his management team.
Junior B Hurling:
Our Junior B Hurlers had a brilliant championship campaign. The lads were unbeaten in their group, winning two games against Castlemartyr and St. Catherines while they drew with Castlelyons. This qualified us for a quarter final against Watergrasshill. Unfortunately we lost narrowly here but our lads can hold their heads very high after a very productive year in both league and championship. Well done to all the players involved and thanks to their management team who gave up their time to coach the lads during the year.

Relay For Life:
In late August, our club participated in the annual Relay For Life in Midleton CBS. This event is run to support the Irish Cancer Society and to remember all families affected by cancer. A huge thanks to all who walked an hour in the relay. A special thanks to our club organisers Gillian Murphy, Áine Cronin, Elaine Counihan, Anne Marie McAllister and Saundra Walsh. The five women gave up their time ahead of the event to sell candle bags along with selling items to support the Irish Cancer Society. In total, €1553 was raised for the Irish Cancer Society. Your dedication to this event every year does not go unnoticed and is appreciated by all in the club. Well done.
Healthy Club:
Our Health Club committee has been recently awarded gold status as a Healthy Club. This is a massive achievement and is really important for our club. Our Healthy Club has run mental health talks, drug and addiction talks, walking events, jiving classes and much more over the last year which just go to show how active this committee is. These events have been a huge hit with many in our community. Well done to Gillian Berry, Mary O’Shea, Saundra Walsh and Paula Dunne on all the work they are doing and on their well earned recognition as a Gold Healthy Club.
Aghada Community Health & Wellness Fair:
Our club was delighted to attend the Community Health and Wellness Fair which was hosted by the Sister Hub in Aghada Community Centre last Saturday. This event provided people in our community with essential health information, along with information about wellness services in our local area. We were delighted to speak to many local residents about what our club offers to both young and old. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our stand for a chat!
Scór:
Are you interested in getting involved in Scór? Well, here’s your chance. Please see the below information received regarding an upcoming Get into Scór webinar hosted by Coiste Náisiúnta Scór. This is a great opportunity for people to get involved as preparations ramp up for Scór na nÓg 2025. The webinar takes place on Sunday the 28th of September. To register, email jamie.otuama@gaa.ie
Tommy Foley Tournament & 50 Years of LGFA in Aghada
A few weeks ago our ladies football committee held a very successful fun day to celebrate 50 years of LGFA in Aghada. A big crowd turned up on the day to celebrate the occasion and a great day was had by all. We had food trucks, Ice Cream vans and loads of fun activities on the pitch for young and old to enjoy. On top of all this, we also had a dunk tank which was a major hit. Thanks to Tom Walsh, Sam McAllister and Clare Walsh who kindly volunteered to go for a bath in the dunk tank on a number of occasions! Also on the day, we had the inaugural Tommy Foley U12 Ladies Football Tournament. Teams from Aghada, Cloyne and St. Colman’s battled it out on the day with Aghada coming out on top in a tight final against neighbours Cloyne. There was fantastic football on show from all teams on the day and great fun was had. The man himself, Tommy Foley was on hand after the final to make the presentation of the trophy to the victorious Aghada team. Tommy has been involved with ladies football in Aghada from the very start and it was fitting that on the occasion of the club's 50th anniversary, the inaugural Tommy Foley Tournament was held to recognise Tommy’s immense contribution to the club. Well done to absolutely everyone who helped organise and run both the fun day and the Tommy Foley Tournament. It was a fantastic day for our club and without your volunteerism and passion for our club, this day would never have become a reality.. A special word of well done and thanks must go to Aghada LGFA Chairperson Sheila Linehan who was a real driving force behind getting the event off the ground.
U11 LGFA Blitz
Our under 11 Ladies Footballers hosted a blitz and cake sale last Saturday morning as a fundraiser for Féile O’Sullivan who unfortunately was involved in a farming accident down in Beara a few months back. Midleton, St.Catherines and Castlemartyr travelled down bright and early to play ladies football for a great cause. Great sportsmanship and skills were shown from all four teams competing.
The event managed to raise €3,500 on the day and we hope this will ease some of the burden on Féile's family. We wish her all the best in her recovery from all in Aghada.

Some people may have been watching Aghada Vs Ballygiblin in the last Intermediate A Hurling group game on Clubber. After the game, Clubber interviewed both Noah Devoy and Charlie Terry about the game and their own impressive displays. After discussing the hurling match, our lads were asked about how the club was flourishing as a one club with all four sections flying it on the playing fields. The lads spoke really well about our One Club and Balls.ie featured it on their website. Read it for yourself at the following link: https://www.balls.ie/gaa/aghada-cork-club-men-women-amalgamation-639874 . Well done lads!
That’s it for this newsletter. Some huge games are on the horizon over the next few days so please do get out to support our teams if you can. Make sure to wear the club colours and roar our players over the line. All games this weekend are listed below.
