Camogie Update
It’s been a super summer season for our camogie teams, and we might just have every squad advancing beyond the group stages in their respective championships, here’s hoping! It’s a great testament to the hard work of players, coaches, and parents alike. From Minor down to U8s, the summer has been packed with competitive action, blitzes galore, thrilling results, and serious progress across all grades.
- Minor Championship
After receiving a bye in the opening round, our Minor team travelled to Kildorrery for their second-round clash, where they put in a spirited performance. Their championship has been on hold since that game, and the next stage of the competition will resume with fixtures against St. Colum’s (h), Dungourney (h), and Grenagh (a), as soon as the Premier Junior Championship concludes. Keep an eye on social for further updates on these games.
- U16 Championship
Our U16s have been on the move throughout their championship campaign. They opened away to Na Piarsaigh in a thrilling back and forth battle only to lose by a couple of points in the end. Next up was Brian Dillons in Rostellan where the girls put the round one defeat well behind them. They showed real grit and determination against a tough Brian Dillons side and held out for a well-deserved win. Round three saw them travel to Crosshaven, and they’ll wrap up the group stages with a crucial must win home tie against Watergrasshill in early October, and we hope the other game in the group runs in their favour. A strong showing so far with plenty still to play for, fingers crossed for this mighty group of girls.
- U14 Championship
The U14s have had a dramatic and impressive run. Kicking off with a home win over Blackrock, they followed up with a stunning victory on the road against championship favourites Rockbán. After two great wins, their most recent outing saw heartbreak in rainy conditions in Passage West last Friday evening, where they led by two points late in the game before conceding an unlucky goal in the final moments. Still, their earlier results have earned them a deserved spot in the semi-finals. Best of luck girls!
- U12 League – Phase 4
This phase brought in slight rule changes to ease the upcoming transition to U13 next season, the girls adapted superbly and relished these changes. Facing Youghal, Dungourney, Cobh, and Carrigtwohill, they showed great skill and teamwork. Their final group match takes place this weekend against Mallow, after which they’ll play a final against the team finishing in the same position from the group above them. Promising signs for the future from this talented bunch.
- Wild League – U9, U10, U11
Now in its second year, the Wild League continues to go from strength to strength. Over the past two weeks, the U9 to U11 players have been showcasing their skills in fiercely competitive games. The finals are set for Wednesday evening, and excitement is building. A big well done to all players, coaches, and volunteers who have made this such a fun and developmental experience for the youngest stars of the club.
Conclusion
From thrilling wins to near-misses, the camogie action this summer has been nothing short of inspiring. With semi-finals and finals still to come for some, the momentum is strong, and the future is bright. Well done to all teams - your efforts are a credit to the club and your community!
