A Chara,

As the children begin to go back to school next week, our club action is beginning to reach its peak levels. Every single one of our teams is busy preparing for their crucial championship games across the club. Before we focus on these later in the newsletter, it is important to acknowledge the Cork Senior Camogie team who were very unfortunate not to get at least a draw in last week’s All Ireland Final. The team fought right until the final whistle and simply ran out of time as they went in search of a levelling score. Heartbreak for the rebels but we are all very proud of their efforts over the last number of seasons where they have delivered not one, but two O’Duffy Cups for Cork. Well done to our club members Aoife Healy, Hannah Looney and Amy O’Connor who represented the Cork team brilliantly all year and there’s no doubt they will be back even stronger again next year. Well done also Kyle O’Shea who was a key cog in the rebel backroom team in his strength and conditioning role. Kyle was very busy in this role along with excelling on the playing fields for Aghada himself in both hurling and football. Not an easy job to juggle everything. Well done Kyle!

Championship Games Come Thick and Fast

Our Intermediate A Hurlers face Erin's Own in their second championship match tonight at 7:30pm in Carrigtwohill. The lads will be aiming to secure a win and add 2 more points to the board.

You may have seen during the week that the Cork CCC ordered a replay of the first championship match against Kildorrery due to a scorekeeping error. However, the Munster CCC has now confirmed that the original result will stand, meaning we currently sit on 1 point. Victory tonight would see us move to 3 points by 9pm! Please get out to support the team and management if you can. Tickets are only available online at the following link: https://gaacork.ie/tickets/

Our Junior B Hurlers got off to a flying start in their opening championship campaign last weekend with a win over Castlemartyr in Cloyne. A blistering first-half performance saw our lads over the line. James O'Donnell had a stormer in goals, Cian Hegarty was immense throughout, and Tomás Condon, Jordan Halpin, and Jack Norris battled all day. Brothers Eoin & James Motherway produced some lovely hurling, especially in the opening period. Well done to all the players and management on a winning start! Their next outing is Sunday morning at 11am in Carrigtwohill against Castlelyons. Please support the lads if you can—cash at the gate for this one.

Meanwhile, our Premier Junior Camogie team begin their championship campaign this Wednesday night at 8pm in Mallow. The players will be hoping for a lightning start in their group after an excellent league campaign earlier this year. In recent weeks, they’ve played a number of challenge games against Youghal and Brian Dillons to fine-tune their tactics ahead of the championship throw-in. Best of luck to all the team, Manager Donal Godfrey, and his management team.

Juvenile GAA News:

Our Juvenile GAA action is a hive of activity at the moment. Thanks to our Juvenile PRO Helen Walsh for her comprehensive notes that she has prepared which are available at the following link: https://aghadagaa.com/articles/160444

Helen deserves great credit for all the work she does to promote our upcoming generation of Aghada stars!

It is fantastic to see so many young lads representing Aghada and out enjoying their hurling and football every night of the week! Be sure to keep an eye on the Aghada Juvenile social media pages — Facebook and Instagram — for updates on upcoming fixtures and the latest news from each of our juvenile teams.

That’s it for this week. Plenty of club action to look forward to over the next few days. Get out to support our teams if you can and don’t forget to wear our club colours!

Slán,
Vince
