A Chara,
I hope everyone had an enjoyable St. Patrick’s Day. Thankfully, the weather wasn’t as bad as expected which allowed people to enjoy the parade in Whitegate. It was great to see so many boys and girls from our club marching in the parade as one with great smiles on their faces.
Celebration night:
Last Thursday night, the club held a successful celebration night in Garryvoe Hotel to celebrate our historic decision to become one club. It was fantastic to see everyone have an enjoyable night celebrating our great club. The night started in style with our male players arriving on a bus. However, our women players raised the bar even more by arriving in a limo! On to the formalities of the night where everyone in attendance was treated to a tasty meal which was followed by presentations to our President, vice presidents and players. Our junior camogie team were recognised for their brilliant County title success last year. Next, our junior ladies’ footballers were presented with their county medals which they won last year. After our ladies had received all their medals, we moved onto our male players achievements. These medals dated back to 2019. Medals handed out to our male players included the East Cork Junior B Hurling League and Championship double from 2019, East Cork U21 Football Championship 2019, Minor Football League 2020, East Cork Junior B Football Championship 2020, East Cork Junior A Football League 2021 & East Cork Junior C Football League 2022. All players were presented with their medals by Club President John Motherway. Once all the medals were presented, player of the year awards were handed out. Kyle O’Shea won the Aghada GAA dual player of the year award for 2022. Jack Norris won the U21 Club Person of the year 2022. Sophie Long scooped the Aghada LGFA junior player of the year 2022. Finally, Rachel Leahy was announced as the Aghada LGFA senior player of the year 2022. Before the music started, East Cork GAA Chairperson Avril Geary, Cork Camogie Chairperson Mairead O’Donovan and Cork LGFA Chairperson Marian Crowley all spoke so positively about Aghada’s decision to become One Club. This was followed by marvelous speeches from Aghada LGFA Chairperson Richard Good, Aghada Camogie Chairperson Vera Terry and Aghada GAA Chairperson Anthony Connolly. The night finished with plenty of dancing on the dance floor with live music provided by Bog the Donkey. Thanks to everyone who attended on the night and hopefully we will have more reasons to celebrate again next year.
A special word of thanks to the organising committee which consisted of Áine Cronin, Sheila Linehan, Gillian Berry, Richie Condon, Bridget Wall, Oisin Counihan, Katie O’Farrell and Christine Moran. Fair play to Áine, Sheila and Gillian who spent a number of evenings in the clubhouse selling tickets in the run up to the event. On top of this, the three women also collected numerous spot prizes to create a brilliant atmosphere on the night. Thanks to Sarah Walsh who was chief photographer on the night. Sarah took some fabulous pictures which can be viewed on our Instagram page. Well done to Christine Moran who not only helped organise and MC the event but also treated the crowd to a fantastic rendition of Caledonia. Thanks to John Murphy who combed through the numerous medals to be handed out on the night and sorted them into the relevant presentation envelopes.
Rebels Bounty:
Thanks to everyone who has supported the Rebels Bounty draw in 2022. Funds generated from the Rebels Bounty last year have allowed us to add to our fantastic facilities in Rostellan. For example: a new walking track, upgrade of the portacabin to give free school grinds to our students, club PA system, club coffee shop and more. The funds from Rebels Bounty have also allowed other initiatives in the club like our Healthy Club programme to get off the ground.
Rebels Bounty ticket sales for 2023 close on the 30th of March. The club would be grateful if you can support us by purchasing one of these tickets. Every euro from the ticket goes to Aghada now seen as we have already reached our assigned quota.
There are fantastic prizes up for grabs with a total prize pot of €500,000 and at least €20,000 given away each month.
Please ensure you select AGHADA as your chosen club.

Sideline Café:
Sideline Café reopens for Season 2023!
The very popular Sideline Café is opening again at the weekends with the view to extending the opening times to weekday evenings as the pitches get busy!
This favoured spot where people meet, chat and get a cuppa or a treat is a great addition to the club. All proceeds from the café go directly to the development of the club.
The café is run by volunteers and this year we would like to be open for more training sessions and matches but in order for this to happen we require some more volunteers.
So if you can help in any way please contact Helen 087 3085376.
Thank you for all your support.
