Aghada GAA Juvenile News
Hi folks, hope all is well as the nights close in and we get ready for the woolly jumpers’ scarves and hats once again. The parish league finals kindly sponsored by Mike Lehane of Energy fitness came to their conclusion after a fantastic number of weeks with the hurling finals last Friday night. The hooking, blocking, catching and striking were just some of the wonderful skills that these young players displayed during a fine exhibition of hurling that kept the large crowd entertained, all these skills honed on the playing pitches of Rostellan over the last few years and we would like to thank everyone who played their part in keeping and enhancing these young players love of our national games. I look around at the people in the crowd closer to my age a mixture of women and men enjoying the spectacle and then I look at the players showing passion and enthusiasm they are the future of this club though they don’t know it yet. Clubs go on, continuity is understood, tradition is upheld, Belief is maintained, the past is remembered and those lost are honoured. The present is safeguarded, the future is planned.
U15 C-3 hurling semi-final Aghada 1-6 Ballincollig 3-9 In horribly difficult weather conditions on a miserable wet wintry Sunday evening our u15 second team had to give second best to a very good Ballincollig side in Rostellan. Well done to all the players who togged out on the day and to the few hardy souls who came out to support the team when I am sure a day in front of the telly must have been very appealing. Three first half goals for the visitors sealed our fate and gave us a mountain to climb despite corner forward Adam Lewis finding the net for us to give a glimmer of hope. Tom Walsh was our scorer in chief nailing 4 of our points with the others coming from Jack Dorney and Jake Morrissey but in truth Ballincollig were worthy winners in the driving wind and swirling rain that sprung up like a tornado in the second half. Team & scorers John Dorney, Eoghan Walsh, Jackson Kearns, Cormac Crowley, Seán O Brien, Cillian Scanlon, Mattie O’ Leary, Josh McCarthy, Sam McAllister, Jack Dorney 0-1, Tom Walsh 0-4, Jack Mulcahy, Adam Lewis 1-0, Cormac Walsh, Alex Buckley subs used Jake Morrissey 0-1, Robbie Oosthuizen, Cillian Burke, Kaylan Cunningham.
We had plenty of good action in our academy ranks last Saturday with our u8 footballers enjoying a very well organised blitz on the 4G surface at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, our u10 hurlers took on Kiltha Óg in Rostellan and our u11 footballers played in a tournament in Youghal against Erins Own, Cobh and the home side, Well done to all involved.
The best of luck to our clubman and former star dual player Ronan Dwane who is the coach of Ballygiblin who are in the premier junior county hurling final on Saturday.
Well done to all who competed in the East Cork school’s cross country championships last Friday with a number of medals making their way back to the parish from our young club members.
