A Chara,

The evenings are closing in and with the lights back on in Rostellan, it is a sure sign the winter is on its way. Unfortunately, last weekend we had a disappointing result against Cill Na Martra in Ballincollig. After a promising opening period where we started well, the men living near the Kerry border took over proceedings. Things just didn’t go our way on the day. Well done to the lads for their efforts all year and no doubt ye’ll be back stronger next year. Thanks also to Philip Moore and his management team who put in a big effort during the year. Our two first teams are now out of championship action, but our hurlers have a league quarter final against Aghabullogue to look forward to. As well as this our footballers will play Kanturk in the league final. So, all is not lost and as the great Nelson Mandela once said, you either win or you learn. So, there’s no doubt our hurlers and footballers will give it everything in these important games. On a different note, it was great to see so many children enjoying our grounds in Rostellan last weekend during an U8 blitz. Fair play to all the Aghada mentors and volunteers who made sure the kids got some biscuits and cordial after all the fun. A great day was had by all and it’s days like this that really make our national sport the best in the world!

Fixtures:

Junior Camogie vs Barryroe at 6pm on Saturday evening in Rostellan.

Senior A Ladies Football Semi Final Vs Mourneabbey at 1pm on Sunday in Rostellan.

Junior B Hurling Vs Castlelyons at 2PM on Sunday in Dungourney.

On Saturday evening, Aghada Junior Camogie team play Barryroe in their final championship group game and are going for four wins from four. This would be a great achievement. Best of luck to all involved here.

Our Junior B hurlers face Castlelyons at 2pm in Dungourney tomorrow in the quarter final of the East Cork Championship. This team has given us some great outings this year so hopefully they can reach another semi-final in this grade like they did last year. Best of luck to Pa O’Connor, his management and all the team.

Earlier on Sunday, Aghada Senior Ladies Footballers play a very historic game in Rostellan. The girls face reigning county champions Mourneabbey at 1pm in the County Senior A Semi Final. I believe we would have to go back a long way in our history books to find the last time we played a senior county semi-final in Páirc Liam Uí Riain. The girls have played some fabulous football all year and are currently unbeaten in the championship having already beaten St Vals, Bride Rovers, Clonakility and Inch Rovers. This will be a truly historic occasion, so please make every effort to come down to Rostellan to show your support for the girls who have represented Aghada so well this year. Best of luck girls!
