Aghada GAA Juvenile News
Hi folks, I hope ye are all well in this very unseasonable weather, the wind and the rain did not deter our young players last week as our u15 and u17 hurlers qualified for league finals that shows a high level of consistency that’s a great credit to players and management. A bit of history was made as the Cork masters football squad picked up their first victory at home to London with Aiden Kelleher starring once again. Davey Creedon missed this one as he was on holidays but by all accounts, he is available for the return trip. Hard luck to Brian Walsh who was part of the Cork Football backroom team who succumbed to Dublin at headquarters, at least the football on show was the only talking point in that game. You can lose all your money and still have your dignity but if you lose your dignity you can lose everything.
A tremendous second half showing saw us overcome the challenge of St Colman’s the Cloyne/Russell Rovers amalgamation in Cloyne last week in the u15 premier 2 hurling league. Whatever was said at half time, coupled with positional changes and the tactical move of Colm O’ Donoghue to full back along with the introduction of Jackson Kearns to put the shackles on the opposition danger man truly worked the oracle as we went from a half time deficit of ten points, losing 2-11 to 0-7 to a resounding 2-12 to 5-19 win. We coughed up early points to our opponents before Tom Walsh and Jude Devoy got us off the mark, we stayed in the game due to Jude’s accuracy from placed balls and were only trailing six points to five on the quarter mark before St Colman’s completely took over to form that healthy interval lead. Not many in attendance could have foreseen what was going to happen next. We started the second half in whirlwind fashion getting on top in all sectors the defence excelling backed up by our excellent goalkeeper Adam Lewis, the midfield dynamic and the forwards bristling with confidence. Jack Linehan crashed home goal number 1 and Jude went onto register 4 more green flags ably assisted by all those around him. We were hitting points from all angles playing hurling on the front foot in a complete turnaround of fortunes from the first half. The win sets us up for a tilt at the league final against the same opponents on July 6th and as we know no two games are ever the same and when you consider Killeagh will play St Finbarr’s in the plate decider it’s been a terrific league campaign so far from our lads. Team Adam Lewis, Cillian Falvey, Jack Buckley, Seán O’ Brien, Andrew Murphy, Colm O’ Donoghue, Sam McAllister, Isaac Oosthuizen, Josh McCarthy, Jack Linehan, Jude Devoy, Tom Walsh, Jack Mulcahy, Jack Dorney, Cormac Walsh subs used Jackson Kearns, Eoghan Walsh.

U17 P2 HURLING LEAGUE SEMI FINAL ….. AGHADA 1-23 MALLOW 0-13 ……. Played in heavy rain and windy conditions in Rostellan. We produced a scintillating second half to book a place in the final. The first half of this match was an even affair with Fionn O’ Connor keeping the scoreboard ticking over for us with some fabulous point taking. The vital score of this game came on the stroke of half-time when a lung busting run by Seán O’ Callaghan ended up with Tomás Condon billowing the ball to the back of the net to leave us ahead at the break 1-7 to 0-9. Our second half display was as good as we played all year. Our defending was fantastic led by Fionn & Seán O’ Callaghan and our score taking was breath-taking with scores from Fionn, Tomás, Samuel O’ Driscoll, Stevie O’ Shea, Hugh Mulcahy and James Hurley. The most pleasing aspect of this victory was we used 24 players on the night, and all contributed to a mighty win. Speedy recovery to Noah Devoy who received a head injury on the night. The final Vs Shandrum is to be played on July 8th. Further details next week.
Our u14 hurlers enjoyed a hard-fought win over Douglas last Sunday morning. The first half was a tense affair with Tom Walsh getting our first point and the ace free taking of Jack Mulcahy telling as we led at the interval by 0-7 to 0-4. Our defence came to the rescue on several occasions as we battled hard to keep the Douglas forwards at bay. We took a firmer grip on proceedings after the interval and 2 stylish points from the stickwork wizardry of u13 player Matthew Condon really lifted all those around him. Cian Moore went to centre back and hurled with authority as wing backs Conor Charles and Kaylan Cunningham drove us forward at every opportunity. Goals from Jack Dorney and Jack Mulcahy proved decisive as we pulled away from our opponents. Austin Schoeman, Cillian Burke, and Alex Buckley were a real thorn in the away defence, while at the other end Eoghan Walsh and Cormac Cashman were not found wanting as we ran out winners on a 2-14 to 2-9 score line. Team Adam Lewis, Eoghan Walsh, Jackson Kearns, Cormac Cashman, Cian Moore, Josh McCarthy, Kaylan Cunningham, Tom Walsh, Sam McAllister, Jack Mulcahy, Jack Dorney, Alex Buckley, Matthew Condon, Austin Schoeman, Cillian Burke sub used Conor Charles.
A game that was played the week before, but this scribe is only getting around to it now as I was out of the country doing a bit of sightseeing, so thanks to Dave Fleming for the updates here on the u13 football league game against St Catherines, another fine win for the boys in Green. We won the toss and elected to play with the strong wind and a good decision it was as we stormed into a fine interval lead scoring 3-8 in the process. Matthew Condon, Kaylan Cunningham, and Peter Mulcahy all scoring 1-2 each and Shay Rooney and Eoghan O’ Shea kicking sublime points. The second half had us playing a lovely brand of possession-controlled football with the defence on top form not giving an inch we still managed to trouble the scoreboard with slick attacking moves. One of those moves saw us notch goal number 4 as James O’ Neill found Conor Fleming with a peach of a pass and Conor made no mistake with an emphatic finish, Shay then struck goal number 5 with a composed strike after a nice individual piece of skill. All in All, this was a mighty effort by the whole panel who all played their part on the day. Final score 5-10 to 4-6. Panel & scorers Cathal Lowney, Sam Morgan, Ciaran Cashman, Rossa White, Aiden Johnston, Jake Morrissey, Seán O’ Reilly, Hugh O’ Loinsigh, Evan Courtney, Conor Padden, Shay Rooney 1-4, Peter Mulcahy 1-2, Matthew Condon 1-2, Kaylan Cunningham 1-2, Eoin O’ Shea 0-1, Jamie Sweeney, Conor Fleming 0-1, James O’ Neill, Cormac Cashman, Robbie OOosthuizen.

Well done to John Connolly and the U8 mentors who held a very successful football blitz down the field last Saturday.

Cúl Camp starts next week, best of luck to the volunteer coordinators and young coaches, trojan work has been going on to organise this camp. May the sun shine brightly on the busy week and this great camp be enjoyed by all.
