A Chara,

Tá súil agam go raibh seachtain dheas agaibh.

Tuesday, we had the longest day of the year and with the Summer in full swing, championship season is almost upon us. Last Friday evening our Intermediate hurlers had a great win down in Dripsey. This win now qualifies us for the quarter final of the league. Well done to the team and management.

Michael O’Connor East Cork Junior A Football Championship

Next Monday evening, our Junior A footballer's face Glenbower Rovers in their first group game of the East Cork Junior A Football Championship which is sponsored by Michael O’Connor Motor Factors. The championship was launched at a very well-run event in Carrigtwohill GAA on Wednesday evening. Ray Savage represented Aghada at the event. On the night the divisions new website was also launched. It is a very slick and useful website with fixtures, results, league and championship tables etc readily available.

View the new website here: www.eastcorkgaa.ie

Our lads have been playing a lovely brand of football this year under manager Matthew O’Connor and his selectors Aidan Berry, Richie Condon, Shane Wall, John Wall and Diarmuid O’Shea. With six wins from seven league games, the team enter the championship in great form and will be hoping to hit the ground running next Monday evening. Congratulations to Max Ahern who has been named Captain of the team for 2022. A great honour which is well deserved Max. Well done.

This team have given us a lot to shout about over the last few years, winning the East cork Junior B championship and gave some fabulous displays in the Junior A championship last year where they were extremely unlucky not to qualify for the quarter finals. Of course, the team then kept us going into the depths of winter by winning the Junior A football league last December. It would be great to get a big Aghada crowd down to Youghal on Monday evening to show our support for lads and management. The game throws in at 8PM in Youghal (Copper Alley). Don’t forget to wear your green and white!

Tickets are priced at €6 and are available at the gate on the night (Cash Only).

Upcoming Fixtures:

Best of luck to the Cork Footballers who face Dublin in Croke Park at 6PM on Saturday evening. Special best wishes to our own Brian Walsh who is involved in the backroom team. Tickets are still available to support the rebels at the following link: Click Here to Purchase Tickets

The Cork Masters Football team are also in action Saturday with Cork playing London at 2pm in the 4G in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Best of luck to Aidan Kelleher and Davy Creedon who are in action here.

On Sunday our Premier Intermediate Footballers face Knocknagree in their final league game of the year. A win here will guarantee a semi-final spot which would be a great effort by all involved. The game throws in at 12 noon in Rostellan so get down and support the lads if you can.

As mentioned above, our Junior A Footballers play Glenbower Rovers in the first round of the East Cork Junior A Football Championship on Monday at 8pm in Youghal (Copper Alley).

Imokilly Footballers were due to play Muskerry in the Cork Premier Senior Football Championship on Thursday evening but this game was conceded by Muskerry. Imokilly will now play Avondhu in the semi-final of the divisional section on Thursday the 30thof June with the venue to be confirmed. Good luck to the team, all Aghada players involved and to Manager Eoin O’Neill.

DMC Fitness

Daniel McCarthy has started a new class on Thursday nights called Forever Young in the GAA club. This class is for anyone of any age that might be looking to regain fitness or maintain their fitness. The class is a combination of spinning and weights or suspension straps. If you are interested why not check it out on the LegitFit app where you can book this class or any of the other 15 classes that take place down in Rostellan with Daniel.

On a separate note, thanks to Daniel and his brother John McCarthy along with Pat O’Connell who have put in trojan work out behind the sports hall where the containers were located. The area has been cleared by the lads where hardcore will be put down. This area has a view that many a person would go on holidays to Spain for! Once completed, it is hoped that we will all be able to enjoy the fantastic scenery out here and maybe even enjoy a coffee from The Sideline Café.

Thanks also to Donal Godfrey and PJ Hurley who recently power hosed the entrance to the pitch and also the buildings below in Páirc Liam Uí Riain which are now ready for a fresh lick of paint.

The Sideline Café

The newly launched Sideline Café has been a big hit with everyone in the community. In the last newsletter, I mistakenly forgot two people who contributed to getting the café up and running. A big thanks to Ger O’Keeffe who painted the kitchen units in the coffee shop. Also, thanks to Finbarr O’Connell for his help in the renovation of the kitchen to the coffee shop. Again, great volunteerism that is at the heart of our club ethos. Thanks lads.

The Sideline Café opening hours this week are below:

Friday 24th: 6pm-8:30pm

Saturday 25th: 10am-12pm

Sunday 26th: 11am-1pm

Why not pop down and grab a cuppa while watching our brilliant national games out on the pitch.

That’s it for this week. Best of luck to all our teams in action over the weekend and next week.
