Well as a hectic week of intercounty hurling comes to an end, club championships will take centre stage from here out. Before we get onto that, huge congratulations once again to Fergal Condon in his role as selector with the All-Ireland winning Cork U20 hurlers. That’s 2 All Irelands for Rasper and the group in 6 weeks. Surely a record that can’t be beaten!!. Well done to all involved. Staying with intercounty, best of luck to Hannah and the Cork camógs against Kilkenny in the All-Ireland semi final in Croke Park this Sunday.
Closer to home our Premier Intermediate teams are ramping up preparations as championship looms just around the corner. First up our footballers will face Newmarket in their 1st round robin game on Saturday week the 4th of September. This game will take place in Glantane at 5pm. The following week our hurlers will face Ballinhassig on Sunday the 12th in Mayfield at 2pm. So best of luck to the lads as they get ready for a hectic 6 weeks of action.
There is one other huge game on the not too distant horizon. Some would say it’s a game to dwarf all others. On October the 9th a football game will take place between Aghada born and bred and Aghada blow ins. Just 3 stipulations to be eligible – You have to be over 40. You can’t be Pearse O’Neill. And you have to have at least a faint pulse on the morning of the game.!! (Pulse after the game is optional!). This game is the brainchild of Colin Rooney and it is to serve as a fundraiser for our good friend, former Aghada footballer and current juvenile coach Sean Kenny who is undergoing severe medical treatment for a very serious illness at the moment. Even in the midst of his health battle, Sean continues to coach the youngsters in Aghada and he does so as always with a huge smile on his face. Best of luck to Seán and his young family and to all involved in this event. On the day our Mothers and Others ladies football team will also play an exhibition match. Willing Volunteers/Footballers for both matches are still needed to make up the 15 a side. If you wish to participate or to help in any way on the day, please contact Colin on 087 9756011. Tonight’s Lotto jackpot is €7,500. Tickets are available in businesses locally or online at aghadagaa.com up to 10pm. Draw will take place live on facebook at 10:30pm.
Speaking of Lotto, we are nearing one year since we relaunched our new Lotto draw. Thanks to the combined hard work of Aghada Camogie, Aghada ladies football, and Aghada adult and juvenile clubs, we have more Lotto players than ever before. We have also paid out lots of prize money to lucky winners, including 4 jackpots. Next week when you are in Rostellan you will see your fellow club members promoting our Lotto and giving out flyers with information and updates on the Lotto. This promotion will take place for the week, so keep the flyer you get on the 1st night to wave on entry the following nights!! Seriously, the Lotto remains our most important fundraiser and sincere thanks to all who are loyally supporting the draw. €2 a week as an auto renew player helps the club to budget and plan not only for the maintenance of our current excellent facilities in Pairc Ui Riain, but also to plan for future new developments.
Lastly today, Cork County Board have planning applications for changes to Pairc Ui Chaoimh and anyone who wishes to learn more about the proposed changes at Pairc Ui Chaoimh can visit - https://www.paircuichaoimhplanning.ie
Sin é, as all sections of all Aghada clubs ramp up for championship action, we hope preparations and matches go Aghada’s way. Best of luck to all,
