AGHADA GAA HURLING AND FOOTBALL JUVENILE NEWS
Cars on the move, parents being pulled in every direction and children having fun and getting much needed exercise, we wouldn’t have it any other way, yes folks the games are back with a bang and in full throttle. They say a good start is half the battle and we got off to a flyer as our 2nd U15 hurling team were first into action and came away with the spoils against Carrigtwohill in a entertaining match played in Rostellan. Next up were our U12 hurlers who travelled to Killeagh Itas and put up a mighty performance losing narrowly to the hosts, albeit after emptying the bench and showing enough promise that augurs well for the future. Our U18 hurlers were out of sorts and lost to a much stronger Bride Rovers outfit. In truth Aghada were well off the pace and a big improvement will be needed here going forward. The complete opposite can be said of our U13 hurlers who comprehensively defeated Cobh in a one-sided encounter. Then last Saturday evening in a much eagerly awaited encounter our U15 hurlers took to the field away to Glen Rovers in our first premier 1 hurling match since 2014. Aghada started brightly with a cracking goal from corner forward Jude Devoy and points from James Hurley, Tomas Condon and Samuel O’ Driscoll put Aghada in a good position at the first water break on a scoreline of Aghada 1-3 Glen Rovers 1-2. However, the loss of centre back Seán Santos O’ Sullivan to two soft yellow cards did not help Aghada’s cause. Despite this Aghada still led at the break by a point. The numerical advantage began to take its toll despite the best efforts of Hugh Mulcahy and Ronan Devoy in defence and the Glen ran out worthy winners in a hard fought physical battle that will certainly stand to our lads for the challenges ahead.

Also over the weekend our U7, U8, U9, U10 & U11 hurlers were in action home and away to Kilara Óg a Kilworth/ Araglen combination. Great excitement and lots of skill on show as our young camáns pulled on the green jersey and gave of their best in the summer sunshine.
Finally last Friday evening we held the finals of our 2020 football U10 parish leagues that were halted due to the pandemic. A fantastic atmosphere was created in Rostellan with quality matches and the sounds of popular music blaring from the speakers giving an almost festival feel to the occasion.
Our esteemed president JohnT Motherway was on hand to give out the trophies and lead mentor Pa O’ Connor thanked the club, the coaches and the parents for their unwavering support and especially the players who gave of their all once again. Juvenile chairman PJ Hurley thanked our sponsors of the finals Anthony of Hydes and Aiden of East Cork Crane hire, he thanked the referees junior whistlers Cormac Walsh and Óisín Counihan as well as Pat O’ Connell and JohnT Motherway for the outstanding work on our club grounds. The Hurling equivalent takes place next Friday evening.
The matches and training will continue apace so keep an eye on the club website Aghadagaa.com for upcoming fixtures and results as the foot stays firmly on the accelerator, and the best of luck to everyone doing exams at the moment in this important time in their lives.
