East Cork Junior C Football Championship - Aghada 3-10 v Glenbower Rovers 1-6; Rostellan 9/6/2021
Our 3rd football team have joined their Junior B counterparts in reaching their East Cork final from 2020, thanks to a comprehensive victory over Glenbower Rovers in Rostellan last Wednesday. There was controversy from the get go when manager Mattie O'Connor picked himself at centreback, ignoring the pleas from his selectors. Despite this Aghada got off to a flyer and by the 1st water break had built up a hugely commanding lead on a 2-5 v 0-1 scoreline. Jordan Tyan hit one of the goals from distance with a large slice of luck involved. The 2nd goal was a well worked move, with Brian Wall rolling back the years to jink and swerve his way through on goals before finishing well. (Actually scratch the rolling back the years bit, I've never seen him do that before, ever!) . Stephen O'Keeffe and Ronan Kennedy were also leading the charge up front with Dan Leahy prominent at midfield. Aghada were playing with the wind in this half but the scoring slowed down somewhat in the 2nd quarter. With the Glenbower centre forward becoming more and more influential, Rovers won the 2nd quarter 3 points to one to leave the half time score Aghada 2-7 v Glenbower Rovers 0-4.
The 2nd half became a bit of a bruising affair, which suited the two Staffords around the middle of the park. A goal from impressive Ronan Kennedy made sure there was to be no unlikely comeback from the Killeagh men. Further points including two excellent scores from reinforcements Brian Morrissey and Luke O'Connell kept the scoreboard ticking over for Aghada. While Jack Norris, Sean Og O Keeffe and David Rice played commanding roles at the back. When all was said and done it was Aghada 3-10 v Glenbower 1-6. (With the Glenbower number 11 getting all their scores!)
Midleton are our opponents in the final. It looks like taking place next Wednesday the 16th, so keep an eye out for the full details. As mentioned earlier our JB footballers are also in an East Cork final and that game is on in Lisgoold this Saturday against Glenville with a 7pm throw in. Current covid regulations will apply for these games. Best of luck to both teams as they go in search of silverware at this early part of the season.
