The u14 Hurlers made the trip to Cobh for their 3rd meeting with neighbours Youghal this year after success in the league encounter and Féile back in June also. So fortunately, it was not 3rd time lucky for Youghal.
Aghada went 2 up within 5 minutes after 2 penetrating runs inside the left flank from Noah Devoy before Samuel O' Driscoll got another point on 6 minutes. Youghal levelled it with a long range free finding its way to the net on 8 mins and went ahead on the 10-minute mark. This was the only time the seasiders were to lead and 2 within 2, first from Jack Flynn to level it after being setup by Noah , who was also to setup John Walsh for the lead score after 12 minutes, so Aghada trailed in the game for just 2 minutes.
A free from Fionn O' Connor put the boys in green further ahead again after 14 mins and he struck again form another placed ball soon after to restore a 3-point lead. Points flowed from both side and Aghada led 1-11 to 1-5 at HT. Youghal were quick off the mark in the 2nd half before Aghada responded in the 33rd minute , and this was to be the start of a 14 minute barren spell for the Rostellan boys, but Youghal were only able to score 4 point during this period so despite not scoring the defence and midfield held firm and kept Youghal at bay, Aghada ahead 1-12 to 1-10 after 46 minutes.
But the response was significant as Aghada outscored their opponents 3-4 to 1-4 in the last 15 minutes or so with Youghal getting the margin back down to 3 as we neared the finish line. A great
reward for a long year’s effort means Hurling into October. Well done to players, mentors and parents.
