Double Delight For Aghada Ladies...
There was joy on the double for Aghada Ladies when on Saturday last they captured the Cork County Intermediate Championship and twenty four hours later the U-12 D County. History was achieved with the Intermediates making it to the Senior grade for 2019 after a great win over Araglen Desmonds Bui on Saturday. This is the first time that the club will compete at Senior Level so we say well done to the players and all involved with the team yesterday and everyone involved with teams over the years as it takes a lot of hard work to achieve what was achieved yesterday. #AthFhadaAbu
Aghada 4-10 Araglen Desmonds Bui 0-08
The day started out with a lot of raining falling but by start of the game the sun had appeared with a bitter cold wind blowing down the field at a wonderful Eire Og venue. This was going to be a tough battle as these two teams had met earlier in the Championship (which doubled up as a League Final) and there was nothing between the sides. Aghada opened at a blistering pace and had the first score of the game with a pointed free from Emma Farmer. This was quickly followed by a goal from the boot of Christine Moran after some wonderful play which split the Araglen Deamonds Bui defence in two like a knife through butter. This was quickly followed by another point from Farmer before Araglen registered their first score of the game after ten minutes play. Aghada kicked the next two points one a free from Farmer and the other from Hannah Looney. Araglen then hit a purple patch in the game and got the next five scores, to leave the half time score Aghada 1-04 Araglen Desmond Bui 0-06.
Araglen started the second half where they left off in the first and had the first score of the half to level matters up, but that was to be it as Aghada pushed on from here and took the game to Araglen and were well rewarded for there work rate shown. Farmer got the next three points two from play and one from a free before Moran got her second goal again after some wonderful play out the field which put her through. Then in the next move Aghada were awarded a penalty, although the initial effort was stopped the ball ended up in the net after a great follow up by Farmer. This took the wind out of the Araglen sails and then discipline left them down when two of their players were sin binned as the game came to its conclusion. They did manage one more point but a another goal and two points from Farmer and one from the boot of Looney crowned a wonderful display by Aghada and they were crowned Cork Intermediate Champions 2018 on a final score line of Aghada 4-10 Araglen Desmonds Bui 0-08.
After the game the cup was presented by Robbie Smith (Chairperson Cork LGFA) to Emma Farmer. Emma thanked her teammates for all the hard work done during the year, the management team for the work they put in and thanked Araglen for the good tough game. It was then back to the Schooner for some well earned refreshments. A special word of thanks to all those supporters who made the journey to support the girls. It was great to see such a large number of people in Ovens.

Aghada 3-08 Bantry Blues 0-03
24 hours on after the Intermediate's winning their County it was onto Bandon for the U-12 D County Final. With the sun shining but cold at the same time the pitch was in pristine condition for this eagerly awaited County Final. Again a great crowd made the journey to Bandon. Bantry got the first score of the game with a well taken point but this was quickly cancelled out by Isobel Colbert, before Brianna Smith put Aghada into the lead. Sally O'Connor got the next point, with another coming from the boot of Elsa Ryan. A free then from Smith had it five points to one with twenty minutes on the clock. Bantry kicked the next two points before Smith had another for Aghada to leave the half time score Aghada 0-06 Bantry 0-03.
The second half was eight minutes old when Shelly French got Aghada's first goal and from here to the end it was all Aghada. Two goals from O'Connor, with points from Caitlin Horgan and Shauna White bought this game to a conclusion and the girls were crowned Cork County U-12 D Champions 2018.
After the game the cup was presented by Brian Cotter on behalf of the County Board to winning captain Sally O'Connor. Sally thanked Bandon for the use of their wonderful facilities, the referee for his handling of the game, the management team for looking after the team and Bantry for competing in a wonderful game of ladies football. After the speeches and photos it was back to the club house for some well deserved refreshments. A special word of thanks to all the parents who bought sandwiches, cakes, biscuits etc., it was very much appreciated.
