East Cork Junior Football Division 2 – Aghada 1-7 v Fr. O’Neills 0-9; Rostellan 2/2/2018
Our Junior A footballers got the weekend off to a great start on Friday night, when they opened their 2018 league campaign with a narrow one point victory against Fr. O’Neills. O’Neills played with the wind in the 1st half a led a low scoring game 6 points to 4 at halftime. Aghada dominated on resumption however, with Charlie Terry playing a prominent role at half forward. He kicked 3 points from play and then set up Kevin O’Hanlon who finished very well to the back of the O’Neills net for a vital goal. That score came on 20 minutes and gave Aghada a 1-7 v 6 point lead. From here to the end it was all O’Neills however as they mounted attack after attack on the Aghada defence. Alan Walsh used all his experience at corner back and had a great game, while alongside him in the full back line, Michael Gilroy and Kyle O’Shea also impressed. With 2 minutes of normal time to play O’Neills had it down to a one point game, but despite having plenty possession, they couldn’t breach the Aghada rearguard and Aghada held on for the win and the 2 league points. A good start to the league. Another positive was that 23 players togged out and with the new rules all 9 subs came on and got game time, the majority of which, were introduced at half time.
