Aghada GAA Juvenile News - By Helen Walsh (Juvenile GAA PRO)

October has been a busy month for our juvenile teams as many wrapped up their seasons and competed in finals. However, our U15’s, are still in action with both hurling and football championship semi-finals to look forward to. The hurlers began their championship with a strong win over Fermoy in Round 1, followed by a hard-fought three-point victory against Na Piarsaigh in the quarter-final last weekend. Next up is a semi-final at home against Kinsale, which promises to be a cracker. These two sides met earlier this year in the Féile competition, so we’re expecting another thrilling contest. Be sure to come down to Rostellan next Sunday 9th at 11am and support the lads.
In football, the U15’s await their semi-final fixture as they stand by for the result of the Bride Rovers vs Carrigtwohill match. So, there’s plenty more action ahead for this group!

 U16 Football County Semi-Final
After their memorable Championship Final win over Glenville, the lads went on to face Charleville in the County Semi-Final. This game was packed with goals, penalties, and tension from start to finish. A first-half goal from Jamie Sweeney and fine points from David Murphy, Cormac, Matthew, and Hugh saw us trail narrowly 2-04 to 1-06 at the break. The second half was equally intense, with David’s frees and a superb goal from Shay Rooney helping us to a two-point lead heading into the closing stages. A missed penalty and a late Charleville goal in injury time turned the tide, ending our campaign in the cruellest fashion. Despite the heartbreak, this group can hold their heads high after a fantastic season — full of spirit, teamwork, and determination. A huge thank you to the players and management for an outstanding year.

U14 Hurling & Football
The U14 Div4 Hurlers wrapped up their season in fine style, winning the Hurling Championship Shield Final against Nemo Rangers and in Football they narrowly missed out in the Shield Final against Erin’s Own last Friday.

Our P2 footballers reached the League Shield Semi-Final against Kinsale, and in a tight game where a flurry of goals in the last 5mins saw us lose out narrowly.  The U14’s also took part in the Munster Super 10’s Qualifiers in Mallow, where they notched up four impressive wins to represent Cork in the Munster Finals in Rathkeale this weekend. The lads topped their group, defeating JK Brackens, Co. Tipperary and Lissycasey Co. Clare, before facing a strong Monaleen (Limerick) side in the semi-final — who went on to win the competition. A fantastic experience for all involved and a great way to finish the season! It has been a very enjoyable and progressive year for this fine group of lads and we thank their mentors and coaches for all their time and commitment.

Parish League Finals

Over two Fridays, the Parish League Football and Hurling Finals delivered it all — excitement, skill, teamwork, and heart. In football, Guileen were crowned Plate Winners, while Ballybrannigan triumphed in the Cup Final after extra time. A week later, the hurlers took centre stage, with Guileen taking the Plate, and White Bay lifting the Cup after two thrilling contests. Across both nights, the atmosphere was electric — the sidelines packed, the cheers loud, and the sportsmanship outstanding. Win or lose, every player gave their all, creating memories that will last long after the final whistle. In the parish leagues they line out as rivals, giving it everything for their teams — but soon they’ll pull on the same jersey, side by side, ready to battle together for Aghada. Huge thanks to everyone who made it possible — the players, coaches, referees, organisers, and incredible supporters who brought the magic to life. Two epic Fridays, four unforgettable finals, and one brilliant group of players.

 Billy Ahern U12 Football Tournament
This Sunday we host our annual Billy Ahern Football Tournament, welcoming teams from Youghal, Kiltha Óg, and Castlelyons. This year’s event is especially meaningful as we remember Jackie, Billy’s beloved wife, who recently passed away. We are proud to continue this tradition in their honour and wish all teams the very best of luck.

Finally, across all age groups from U6 to U18, in both hurling and football, we’ve enjoyed many great matches, trainings, tournaments, and days out. The lads continue to learn new skills, form new friendships, and discover new strengths through both winning and losing.

For those who have wrapped up for now, enjoy the break! Best of luck to our U15s — we’re all behind you and cheering you on! As always, none of this would be possible without the dedication of our coaches, the hard work of our players, and the support of our parents. Well done, everyone, and see you all very soon!
