Friday night kicked off in style with our U10 Football Parish League Finals. Four teams took to the field with great anticipation, and spectators were treated to two outstanding, hard-fought encounters showcasing impressive skill, determination, and teamwork. When the final whistles blew, Guileen were crowned Plate Winners, while after extra time, Ballybrannigan claimed victory in the Cup Final. While the results provided well-deserved rewards, the true highlight of the night was the sportsmanship displayed throughout — the encouragement, mutual respect, and camaraderie shared among all players and teams. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the enthusiastic support of a large crowd, whose presence and encouragement contributed greatly to the success of the event. Sincere thanks are extended to everyone who played a part in making the evening possible — the players, coaches, referees, organisers, and all who supported the teams.
We now turn our attention to the next eagerly anticipated event: The Hurling Parish League Finals – this Friday at 7.00pm

Saturday morning saw our U11’s take part in the Gerard Kenny Hurling Tournament in Bride Rovers. The U11’s claimed victory in the Plate final after a well contested game against Watergrasshill. Well done lads!

Later that evening our U14’s hurlers recorded a comprehensive victory over Nemo Rangers at home in Rostellan in the Rebel Óg East Fe14 Div4 Hurling Championship Shield Final. Aghada 5-07 Nemo Rangers 2-02
In a match that produced five Aghada goals and plenty of fine hurling, our lads were on top from the start. They moved the ball superbly, worked hard for each other, and took some excellent scores throughout. At halftime, the scoreboard read 3-3 to 1-0, Adam O’Loughlin, Darragh Kenny & Harry Martin scoring the three fine goals and Finn Larkin, Shay Casey & Seán Day working well in the back lines clearing ball preventing Nemo getting through. The second half continued in the same vein, with another excellent goal from Cormac O’Brien and a clever lob from Mason Sheehan sealing the deal. All our subs played their part in what was a fantastic all-round team performance. A brilliant win to wrap up their hurling season and a well-deserved Shield Final victory for this talented group! After a humbling opening-day championship defeat against St Colmans in early August our U16 team, under the guidance of a hardworking management setup, bounced back in style to go all the way to the final. Facing a much-fancied Glenville side, the lads delivered a performance full of heart, skill and determination to claim the Div1 title with a superb 9 point victory. This was a cracking game of football that ebbed and flowed from the start, with quality scores as both sides ran themselves to a standstill. Our six backs had to be at their best to curtail the lively Glenville forwards, with Matthew Condon excelling at corner back, defensively assured and menacing with his frequent forward runs into the opposition half. Behind them, goalkeeper Donncha Walsh was calm and assured. Around the middle, the “twin towers” of Kaylan Cunningham and Evan Courtney showed great aerial prowess and also chipped in with vital scores. Up front, our forwards bristled with energy, while our subs also made an impact in what was a wonderful all-round team performance. Glenville opened the scoring with an early goal, and both sides exchanged points before we hit a purple patch approaching half-time. Two spectacular “orange-flag” two-pointers — one from a David Murphy free and another from Kaylan Cunningham — turned the tide. When Glenville were reduced to 14 just before the break, we led 0-9 to 1-02 at half-time. Glenville came out all guns blazing after the restart and cut the margin to a single point with three unanswered scores. Shay Rooney steadied the ship with a well-taken free, but moments later, we were rocked again as Glenville found the net to take the lead. Our lads didn’t panic and responded in style. David Murphy finished a flowing move to the net, and points from Evan Courtney and Shay Rooney to restore control. Glenville pressed hard in search of another goal, but strong defending and an important save from our netminder kept them at bay. Evan then put the icing on the cake with a well-taken goal, and our lads managed the game superbly to run down the clock and seal an impressive victory. After the final whistle, captain and centre-back Eoin O’Shea received the cup from fellow clubman and Rebel Óg East delegate Michael Mulry to tremendous applause.
Huge congratulations to this outstanding panel and management team, who showed great resilience, teamwork and belief to turn their season around and now look forward to a County Semi-final against Charleville in Kildorrery on Tuesday, October 21st.
