Aghada GAA Juvenile Match reports 29/5/24 – 6/5/24
· Rebel Óg East U16 Div1 Hurling League 29/5/24 report by Declan Crowley Youghal 2-18 Aghada 3-8 We travelled to Copper Alley Monday evening for round 4 of the hurling league and on the back of a good win Thursday we were hopeful of keeping the good run going but after most of the lads playing 5 games on 7 days at all different sports we were struggling to keep up with a much sharper Youghal outfit , down 12 pts to 1-6 at half time , the goal from Jack Mulcahy. Two early Youghal goals in the second half put the game out of our reach, credit the lads for plugging away and a typical poachers goal from Cillian Burke and a belter from Cormac Crowley kept the game interesting up to the last few minutes but Youghal saw the game out best on the night were John Dorney solid in goals, Will O’ Mahoney, Eoghan Walsh and Adam Lewis worked hard up front. Team John Dorney, Eoghan Walsh, Josh McCarthy, Will O’ Mahoney, Cormac Crowley, Kaylan Cunningham, Sam Morgan, Sam McAllister, Cian Moore, Jack Dorney, Tom Walsh, Shay Rooney, Adam Lewis, Jack Mulcahy, Matthew Condon subs all used Jake Morrissey, Cillian Burke, Jamie Sweeney, Robbie Oosthuizen and Cillian Scanlon.

· Rebel Óg East U14 Div2 Hurling Championship 3/5/24 report by Pa O’ Connor
Aghada 3-16 St Colmcilles 3-5 Aghada got off the best possible start in this Championship by beating our opponents last Friday evening below in Rostellan. Although the lads hadn’t played a game in awhile you wouldn’t of thought it as they played some great hurling. Our backs defended solidly and did the basics right. Also giving out great distribution which enabled us to move the ball into our forwards quickly and accurately. From defence through our midfield up to our forwards all put in a massive shift. Our inside lines movement caused S.t Colmcilles all sorts of problems and lead to great ball being fed in and plenty of scores coming from the supply. In the end we ran out deserving winners and we move on to our next game Glenville in Football. Team Dara O’ Brien, Maidhc Collins, Donncha Walsh, Dylan Kearns, Finbar Alcock, Cormac Cashman, Darragh Callanan, Eoin Kirrane, Jack Kellehe,r Marcus O’ Loughlin, Rían O’ Brien, Harry Burgoyne, Cathal Lowney, David Murphy, Bobby O’ Riordan subs all used James Irwin, Jake O’Sullivan, Tim O’Hanlon. -------------------------------------
·Rebel Óg East U12 Hurling G1 Aghada 5-6 Youghal 4-8 5/5/24 A goal filled morning in sunny Rostellan last Sunday saw our U12 hurlers put on a fine display to come out on top with the slightest of margins. This was a busy day of matches for the boys but they settled well with a goal from Michael Lowney after just 2mins and some fine scores from Aaron Murphy, Bobby Creedon and Dara Kelleher, and just as Youghal gained some scores Michael Lownry struck again for the second goal. Youghal were battling hard against us but the 2 Seán’s in defence held solid and cleared plenty of ball with Eoin Condon striking for the third goal just before half time. 3-4 to 2-3 at halftime whistle. Youghal came out strong in the second half and got a few scores but with some fine passing play and fine catches in midfield by Bobby Creedon, Rory Casey and Michael Creedon and strength of Ronan Callanan we drove forward and stuck 2 more goals from Aaron Murphy & Rory Casey. Youghal did get a late goal but we held on to get the deserved win, from a brilliant team effort and a special mention to James O’ Brien in goals who made some impressive saves. Well done lads. Team: James O’ Brien, Seán Walsh, Seán O’ Sullivan, Eoin Condon (1-1), Eoin Rooney, Ronan Callanan, Bobby Creedon (0-2), Rory Casey (1-0), Michael Creedon (0-1), Dara Kelleher (0-1), Adam O’ Loughlin, Michael Lowney (2-0), Aaron Murphy(1-1) subs used Danie O' Neill

Football Féile Prem 3 Group D.
2 wins from 2 in the group stages of Féile this bank holiday Monday saw us top the group in Killeagh and we continue on to the semi-finals date/venue/opponent TBC.
Match 1 : Aghada vs. Killeagh 6/5/24 report by Mark White
Playing against the wind in the first half, Aghada conceded an early goal to strong Killeagh side. Conceding the goal seemed to light a fire under the Aghada lads, who worked hard to play against the wind. At times Aghada played champagne football, with strong and aggressive defending snuffing out Killeagh’s attacks, and the Aghada midfield linking backs to forward to set up some memorable scores. Aghada placed enormous pressure on the Killeagh kick outs, resulting in some turnovers and allowing Aghada to put some distance between the teams. Aghada looked to be in a commanding lead as the teams started the second half with the wind at their backs. The half time talk from the Killeagh mentors galvanised our East Cork neighbours, and they tore into the Aghada defense with purpose. Goalkeeper Donncha Walsh was commanding between the posts, and some brave defending by the Aghada back six, together with some breakaway scores kept some daylight between the teams. Final score 2-9 to 2-4 in favour of Aghada in a hard fought encounter where the footballing skills of the physically smaller Aghada team saw them through.
Match 2 : Aghada vs. Mitchelstown
No rest for Aghada with Mitchelstown next up after a brief break to take on some water. Mitchelstown looked a physically big side, and the Aghada management tailored the team to address this. Aghada inched ahead of Mitchelstown in the first half driven by stalwart defending, with captain Evan Courtney impressive in challenging Mitchelstown’s giant number 8. Despite the size difference, Aghada were impressively gritty and stoic, and played by far the better football. Sticking to the game plan some more scores were put on the board. After half time Mitchelstown’s heads dropped and Aghada went on a scoring rampage, with Shay and Jake combining with the Aghada front 6 to deliver a constant barrage of scores. Whenever Mitchelstown forayed in to the Aghada half the back line of Rossa, Ciaran and Seán put on some fantastic challenges. There was always an outlet for the turnover ball, and centre back Cormac Cashman linked brilliantly with the wide players to create chances for Shay and Jake to finish, with options always available from Robbie and Marcus. Final score Aghada 7-9 to Mitchelstowns 1-4.
A fantastic days football from all of the Aghada panel. Regardless of the result the application and attitude of the Aghada team was superb. While missing a few big players, the U14 players certainly stepped up and more than filled the gap. A big thank you to all the travelling support – when plays went against us it was great for the lads to hear the words of encouragement from the sideline.
