Aghada GAA Juvenile News

Hi Folks, Hope springs eternal as our young hurlers and footballers were in action over the weekend in their respective league games, a fresh spring dawns with the hope of finer weather ahead as we are still being greeted by frosty mornings and wild wintry days and whatever the unpredictability of the Irish weather the unpredictability of the world, we live in is even more uncertain while we still must plant the seeds and keep raising the standards with eyes on the future. Our U17 hurlers scored a comprehensive win away to Ballinhassig last Sunday afternoon, racking up an impressive 3-28 in the process, the defence was marshalled superbly by full back Seán Santos O’ Sullivan while at the other end Fionn O’ Connor in the unfamiliar surroundings of full forward put in an accomplished display scoring 11 points from play and placed balls. With the goals coming from the commanding Samuel O’ Driscoll who rattled the net twice with 2 smart finishes of the highest quality and the coup de grace a fine solo effort from half back Seán O’ Callaghan surging up field Kyle Hayes esque to billow the net. Points from Noah Devoy, Tomás Condon and James Motherway capped a superb first league outing for the boys in green 3-28 to 2-9. Also, on Sunday our U15 footballers played at home to Killtha Óg and sometimes not mentioning the result is better all round such was the landslide score line in our favour. The margin of victory probably did no favours to either side and still you can only compliment the way the Tom O’ Neill led management team and the players went about their task as they know only too well much tougher tasks lie ahead.

Congratulations to all our players who have made Rebel Óg squads for the year enjoy the experience and represent the club well and to those who missed out don’t dwell on it too much you are in good company as there is a long list of players who never played minor for their county, in football Brian Fenton, Bernard Brogan and the Bomber Liston in hurling Lar Corbett, Seamus Harnedy and Eddie Brennan to name but a few and closer to home our own Conor Counihan and Pearse O’ Neill how many all-stars in that contingent alone answers on a postcard please. The lesson is to never give up, it doesn’t matter where you’re at really, it’s when you start playing adult that really counts, at the end of the day it’s the players who want it more than anyone else and are willing to sacrifice and put in the effort have the greater chance of being successful. There is always hope for you if you have a good attitude.
