J.B. football Championship

On Thursday 23rd, our second football team play their 1st round of the East Cork JB football championship when we face Glanmire in Lisgoold at 7:45pm. We regraded this outfit down from Junior A at last year’s AGM, after not having any impact at that level for a number of years. So hopefully we can have a decent run in this competition but it’s a difficult draw against Glanmire’s 2nd team also. Please support if you can

Recent Results

Our first teams suffered two defeats in their respective leagues last week. In P.I. football, Dohenys visited Rostellan on Tuesday the 14th and left with the maximum points available. 3 goals from the visitors in the opening half, plus a 4th with just 5 minutes to play as Aghada looked like making an unlikely comeback sealed victory for Dohenys. Alan Hogan, on his debut at this level scored 1-1 and Aghada had good performances from Ronnie Power, Shane Dorney, Jordan Tynan, and Pearse O’Neill. Final Score Aghada 1-13 v Dohenys 4-11. Aghada team and scorers – Ciaran O’Shea, Tommy O’Donoghue, Ronnie Power, Kyle O’Shea, Shane Dorney(0-1), Jake O’Donoghue, Jordan Tynan(0-1), Pearse O’Neill(0-3), Aiden O’Connell, Ronan Kennedy(0-1), Kevin O’Hanlon, Danny Creedon(0-5f), Jack Farmer, Shane Bennett, Niall Hill(0-1). Subs Used – Aaron Butler, Alan Hogan (1-1), Mark Healy, and Mattie O’Connor.

Then on Sunday the 19th, our P.I. hurlers travelled to Kildorrey, but short a large number of players, we came away empty handed when the home side had a comprehensive win on a 1-21 v 0-9 scoreline.

Our JB hurlers had two games recently. First they travelled to Rathcormac where we took on Bride Rovers in the East Cork league. Just the bare 15 travelled, including Mattie O’Connor who was picking up a hurley for the 1st time this year. However he scored 1-2 and this along with strong performances from Luke Foley and Mark Healy helped Aghada to a fine win on a 2-16 v 0-16 scoreline. Then last Tuesday we faced another Rovers when we travelled to the city to face Lough Rovers in the County league. This time we were no match for the home side, who ran out comfortable winners on a 3-20 v 3-09 scoreline. Aghada’s goals came from Mathew O’Connor (2) and Mathew Leahy. There was only a point between the teams at half time, but despite good performances from Aaron Butler, Ben Stafford, Ger Melvin and Alan Walsh, Aghada couldn’t keep pace with Lough Rovers in the second period. Aghada Team – Ronan O’Connell, Declan Carey, Mark Healy, Aaron Butler, Ben Stafford, Ger Melvin, William Geary, Conal Rabbitte, Alan Walsh, Mathew Leahy, John Connolly, Richie Condon, Luke O’Connell, Mathew O’Connor, Declan Foley. Subs Used – Jack Farmer, Tommy Dobbyn
