Relay for life

Last Saturday and Sunday Aghada’s 4 Gaa clubs got together and took part in the relay for life in aid of the Irish Cancer society, which took place in Midleton CBS grounds. In the Aghada tent there was candle sets for sale aswell as raffle tickets for 2 paintings by Yvonne Condon. The winners of these paintings were Aidan Hughes from Youghal, and Bill Steele from Aghada. Thanks to the over 100 men, women and juveniles from across all 4 clubs – adult, juvenile, ladies football and camogie – for their commitment to the 24 hour relay. Special thanks to Vera Terry who brilliantly organised it all on our behalf. And Vera stayed on site at the relay for the full 24 hours!!  Should be some peace and quiet in the Terry house now as she sleeps it off!

East Cork Junior Semi – final

Another good news story from off the pitch was our successful hosting of the East Cork hurling semi-final between St. Itas and Lisgoold. There is an enormous amount of work going in daily to the upkeep of our pitches and grounds, and games like these are like the 1st round of championship to a player, as all their hard work gets put on display. So there can be no greater complement than the many participants from both visiting clubs who were hugely impressed by the condition of the main field and the grounds in general. So take a bow and a big thanks to Patrick O’Driscoll, Kieran Aherne, Maurice Rice, John Motherway and Pat O’Connell who are all doing Trojan work in Pairc Liam Ui Riain. Thanks also to those who helped out on the day of the match.

On the pitch

Congrats to Mike Russell , Will Leahy and manager Fergal Condon, who helped Imokilly beat Bishopstown in Senior hurling championship last weekend. Well done also to Charlie Terry who starred in UCC’s win in the same competition. Could he come face to face with his own teammates before the year is out??

Best of luck also to Hannah Looney and the Cork senior camogie squad in this weekend’s All-Ireland Camogie final.

Last weekend our senior footballers travelled to Kilmacud for the annual All Ireland club 7’s tournament. We were drawn in a tough group which contained the eventual winners St. Galls, and we failed to make it to the quarter final stage.

Fixtures

Our Jb hurlers have a league game this Saturday in Carrignabhear at 5pm.

Senior football relegation championship is currently down for the 22nd of September against Ilen Rovers in Enniskeane at 5pm.

Our hurlers have drawn Carrigaline in their relegation battle. No fixture for this yet. While our U21 hurlers are still in the right side of the championship and should also be in action in the next few weeks also.

Lotto

The current jackpot is €4,500 and the next draw is on Thursday 6th in the Schooner Bar. Last week’s numbers were 2,7,9,13. There was no jackpot winner, but congratulations to Helen wall, Kevin Broderick, Paul Mullalley, Pat Wyse and Meygen Aherne  who each won a €30 lucky dip.

Again, the Aghada website is the best place to get up to date info on Lotto, fixtures, results, news items etc  etc. And info for all 4 clubs is located on the one site.
