Aghada 3-09 Nemo Rangers 1-08

Aghada Ladies made the journey to Sallybrook in Glanmire to take on Nemo Rangers in the Cork County U-14 B Final on Sunday evening last. On a beautiful evening for football Nemo came out of the blocks at a blistering pace and were rewarded with a well taken point to open the scoring after a minutes play. Kaitlin Smith kicked Aghada's first score of the match from a free, which was quickly followed by a goal from the boot of Brianna Smith as the girls settled into the game. Rachel Leahy kicked a great point after great enter play between Rheanna Warne and Ciara Ryan. Nemo replied with a point of their own from a free which was again cancelled out by Leahy with another free. Brianna added another point before Nemo added their third from a free to leave the score after fifteen minutes play Aghada 1-04 Nemo 0-03 and the first of the water breaks called by the referee. Leahy fired over another point from a placed ball when Nemo replied with one of their own. Brianna was next up with a point before Nemo replied with another again from a placed ball. Leahy was to have the last say of the first half with a point again from a free. The first half had a very start stop feel to it. The halftime score read Aghada 1-07 Nemo 0-05.

Like a carbon copy of the first half Nemo were again fast out of the blocks and kicked a point with a minute played in the half. Leahy opened Aghada's account on forty one minutes before Nemo kicked a point of their own as we headed for our second water break. On the resumption Leahy kicked a peach of a goal low to the corner of the Nemo net but this was quickly cancelled out when they went straight up the field to score a major of their own. Kaitlin added another point to keep the five points between the sides. Then came the score that put Aghada on their way to County Honors when Leahy popped up once more and just like the first she made no mistake and hit the same corner with a sublime strike. That was it and Aghada were crowned Cork U-14 B County Champions.

This was a great achievement from a wonderful bunch of girls who had worked hard all year to get to where they were today. After the game the cup was presented to Rachel Leahy by Eamonn O'Connor on behalf of the Cork County Board. Rachel thanked Glanmire for the use of their field, the referee for his handling of the game, the management for all the training they did with the team and Nemo for contributing to a good game of Ladies Football. After all the photos were taken it was off in convoy to GoGo's for well earned refreshments. Well done to all.
