County Minor Final Ends In Stalemate…
Aghada 0-12 Glanmire 2-6
Where does one start here, drama, sin binning’s goal’s, point’s and a never say die attitude from the seaside girls. This game had everything. It was a pulsating game from start to finish played in very testing conditions in Castlemartyr where underfoot conditions led to a hard slog for the girls over the hour.
Aileen Mc Grath kicked the first score of the match for the seaside girls inside the first minute, this was quickly followed a minute later by one from the boot of Christine Moran. Then against the run of play Glanmire hit the back of the net before Lauren Mc Allister leveled matters up once more. Glanmire replied with a point of their own before Aileen Mc Grath bought parity once more and after the first quarter it was all level Aghada 0-4 Glanmire 1-1. Glanmire then hit a purple patch and kicked the next three points of the match on the 19th, 21st and 23rd minute to go in at the break leading on a score line of Aghada 0-4 Glanmire 1-4.
At the break Rachel Leahy was introduced for Megan Sweeney and she had a quick impact on proceedings when she kicked the first score of the second half after been set up by Mc Allister, (It could of been a different if Mc Allister hadn’t slipped after catching a long delivery from Moran). Mc Allister kicked the next point of the game and it was back to a one point game. Glanmire got a point of their own to push two clear again. Mary Leahy was introduced for Amy Hickman. The seaside girls won a free which was taken quickly to Aine Mc Grath and she made no mistake to split the Glanmire posts and bring it back to a one point game once more. At this stage of the game Glanmire lost a girl to the sin bin and it was in this period that the seaside girls added two more points to take the lead, both coming from the boot of Lauren Linehan from placed balls. Glanmire came again and leveled matters once more with forty six minutes on the clock. As the drama and pressure mounted scores started to dry up. The seaside girls lost a girl to the sin bin and Glanmire lost their second player to the sin bin. With time up Mary Leahy popped up and put the seaside girls a point clear, would it be enough was the question. With sixty two minutes on the clock the seaside girls were dealt a sucker punch when Glanmire rattled the back of the Aghada net once more. Where other teams might have thrown the towel in this wasn’t the case with the seaside girls. From one to fifteen they put their shoulders to the wheel and bought it back to a one point game on the sixty fifth minute when Linehan slotted her third free. Could they get the equalizer was on everyone’s minds and the answer was yes when coolness personified from Linehan bought this pulsating match to a conclusion and both teams must do it all over again. As I said at the start of the report this game had everything but the never say die attitude of the seaside girls was the highlight of the match in my opinion. Roll on the replay. Final score Aghada 0-12 Glanmire 2-6.

All Ireland Junior Semi Final…
All roads lead to Tuam on Sunday when we take on the home team Tuam / Cortoon in the All Ireland Junior Semi Final. This is uncharted waters for the club as we have never experienced this before as it will be a first in the clubs history but it’s a journey we are delighted to be on and a journey that we will give it all in the pursuit of victory. The match is fixed for Tuam Stadium at 2pm on Sunday. We would appeal for as many people as possible to come out and support these girls on this journey. They have trained and worked hard all year and are only sixty minutes away from an All Ireland Final. We would like to wish the players and management the very best of luck on Sunday. If you are unable to make the game we will be tweeting live from Tuam so you won’t miss a score.
