Junior A Football Championship Aghada 2-2 v Castlelyons 0-13; 19/05/2017 in Ballinacurra
Our Junior A footballers bowed of this year’s championship when they were outplayed by a superior Castlelyons outfit last Friday night in Ballinacurra. Aghada had the best possible start when Kevin O’Hanlon raised a green flag in under 30 seconds. Charlie Terry added a point on 4 minutes, but for the majority of the half Castleyons would be dominant. They kicked 8 points and missed as many again. Conal Rabbitt did lift the siege with a second Aghada goal coming up to half time and at the short whistle, despite being second best, there was only a point between the sides – Aghada 2-1 v Castlelyons 0-8. Unfortunately the pattern of the game didn’t change didn’t change after the restart with Castlelyons pointing in the opening minute. Further points followed on 16, 18, 24 and 27 minutes. It would be the 59th minute before Aghada registered any score in the second half, when they had the final point of the game. So it’s Castlelyons who advance to the next round winning by 5 points on the night.
