5k Friends of Kieran walk
We had an incredible turnout of circa 4,000 people arrive at our grounds in Rostellan last bank holiday Monday to take part in a walk of solidarity with Kieran and the O’Connor family, as they continue to battle Kieran’s Ewing’s Sarcoma. It was great to see so many people on the day. We had current Cork footballers and hurlers present and it was great to see so many former Cork players there aswell. Especially Kieran’s former Cork teammates who arrived on mass, nearly all of them pushing not just a child’s buggy but a double buggy!!(how times change). Huge credit to the organisers who kept the event running smoothly and the large numbers were catered well for in every way. Fantastic to see Kieran lead out the walk, and we hope that the knowledge that so many people are behind him will help him and his family. Please check out the friends of Kieran website - friendsofkieran.com where you will see lots of pictures of the walk, plus any upcoming events and donation info etc etc.
Premier Intermediate hurling League – Aghada 2-20 v Killbrittan 0-7; Rostellan, March 17th 12pm
Our hurlers notched up their 1st win of the campaign on Patrick’s Day, when they had a fine win against Kilbrittan. Aghada played with wind for the 1st period and led 1-10 v 0-7 at the interval, thanks mainly to a 1-3 total from Charlie Terry. The second half got off to a flyer. Kilbrittan scrambled home a goal from the throw in after Aghada failed to deal with a long ball into the defence. Next up though, Charlie caught a Danny Creedon pass, turned and buried a great goal to restore the lead. It could have been 3 goals in as many minutes, but for Aghada ‘keeper Trevor O’Keeffe making a fine save. The scoring was relentless and with only 10 minutes on the second half clock, Aghada had hit 1-3 with the visitors topping this and hitting 1-5 in the same period. Pearse O’Neill and Kevin O’Hanlon were playing well for Aghada, along with Charlie who continued to keep the scoreboard moving. Long balls continued to cause Aghada’s defence problems and we were grateful to Shane Wall who deflected another Kilbrittan goal chance over the crossbar. With 2 minutes of normal time to go the sides were level, but Aghada finished stronger. O’Neill from play after a one two with Cha and two Terry frees, earned by O Hanlon and Tommy O’Donoghue saw Aghada home for a deserved victory.
