Our U11 Hurlers played 2 simultaneous League fixture in the Rebel Óg competition at Rostellan on Friday 23rd June. The opponents were douglas and both teams served up a great night of hurling with the home side coming out on the right side of a very tight and entertaining game. Well done to all players and management and a big thank you to our Junior Referees Óisin & Jack.
Pictures are of Aghada Captains on the night Robert Dean Team A and Sean Santos o Sullivan on Team B and also a photo of the 22 players that played on the night.
East U12 Hurling League Killeagh Ita’s 0-6 Aghada 4-6.
On Tuesday, 20th of June, Aghada U12 hurlers played Killeagh Ita’s in the last East Cork u12A hurling league match of the season. At that time, a win was needed to ensure that we qualified for the knock out competitions. At this time of the year with vacation & school outings, we were down a few but no more or less than any other team at this age. Despite Killeagh Ita’s poor showing this season (for varying reasons) we always had a tough match with them over the years so nothing was to be taken was granted (that’s was what the mentors tried to passed onto this gaggle of humming, swaying, giggling bunch of lads). As you can imagine this is easier said than done and it took over ten minutes before Aghada realized there were in a competitive game & victory wasn’t assured. Playing with a strong we led out opponents by 3 points at half time. Choice crisp metaphors was used to refocus the lads on the job at hand and playing against a strong breeze we eventually won 4-6 to 0-6 to finish second on our group and to assure a position in the play-offs. During the u12H league campaign we have won 4, lost one and drawn another to finish one point behind St Catherine’s in our section. Our u12 squad is made up of mainly u12’s players with the ample support of 7/8 u11’s players to bring the squad up to 21 players. Every team has characters but we seem to be “blessed” to have a squad full of characters but to be fair each of them enjoy the game and are committed to the team. Onwards & upwards to the play offs.
Our U7 hurlers continued their Blitz programme, with a trip to Killeagh recently. We were down to 7 players on the day owing to Holidays and Illness but those 7 gave it everything against Youghal and Kiltha Óg. Many thanks to Killeagh & Rebel Óg for running an excellent blitz.
Minor Hurling – Minor Hurling League Whitechurch 2-16 Aghada 2-8 played Thurs 22nd June.
Our Minor hurlers had a tough encounter on Thur night against a bigger & physically stronger Whitechurch team. Our defence was caught out for 2 early goals when dropping balls were not dealt with quickly enough. Craig kept a great goal all the way through & some of his saves were out of the top drawer.
When we settled after 15 minutes, Dara Murphy, Luke & Ben did some great work in clearing our lines but too much ball was arrived in to our danger area. But we battled our way back with good goals from Jamie & Alan along with long range points from Marcus.
Jack & Rory put a tight rein on their half forwards with great support from Kyle & Cal. we went in at half time 6 points down having played against a strong breeze.
Our half forwards of Ciaran , Conor & Vincent got down to working much harder on and off the ball in the second half but we could not break down the stubborn Whitechurch defence & score s became harder to get, despite the best efforts of Oisin, Alan & Jamie & Dara Ryan when introduced.
Whitechurch will be strong in the championship but so will we when we have our full side out. Final Score Whitechurch 2.16 Aghada 2.08
We have learned more about where we are at from this defeat but the morale in this group is very good & the work ethic is outstanding. So lots of work done but more sharpening to do.

U9 & U10 Hurling.
Aghada’s 9 and 10’s were in hurling action with league games in Rostellan last Saturday morning. First up the u9’s took on Watergrashill in what turned out to be a very even contest over all. The ‘Hill led for most of it, but Aghada came thundering back in the second half with a never say die attitude. There was two points in it at full time in favour of the ‘Hill, but another minute or two and Aghada would have caught them for sure.
Next up the U10’s took on Ballygarvan. The visitors were hit by holiday season, so only one game was played instead of two. Aghada got a grip of the game early and never let go for the 50 minutes. Playing some clinical hurling and displaying a ruthless streak in front of goal when chances arose, Aghada won out fairly comfortable winners in the end.
Panels – U9 – Adam Lewis, Alan O’Reilly, Alex Buckley, Cillian Burke, Cillian Scanlon, Cormac Crowley, Jack Dorney, John Dorney, Ollie Killeen, Sam Douglas, Thomas Hannon, Tom Walsh.
U10 – Andrew Murphy, Cillian Falvey, Colm O’Donoghue, Cormac Walsh, Emmet O’Keeffe, Issac Oosthuizen, Jacob Harley, Joe Connolly, Jude Devoy, Nathanael O’Driscoll, Pierce McLoughlin, Sean O’Brien.
Thanks also to our two Juvenile referees who did great jobs with the whistle on Saturday – Sean Og O’Keeffe and Ben Stafford.

Congrats to Aghada Ladies Footballer Aishling O’Connor and all of her proud family on winning the Cork Rose title on Saturday 24th June. The family already have history of supporting one of their own (Kieran) in Killarney during July so no doubt they will also embrace supporting another sibling in Tralee during August.
