Senior football league Division 3 Aghada 0-12 v Carrigaline 0-12
An entertaining draw was the outcome of Aghada senior footballers 2nd league outing against Carrigaline, where the strong wind was a big influence on the night. Aghada had it at their backs for the 1st half, and quickly made good use of it. John Looney kicked the 1st score, quickly followed by a 2nd from Josh O Shea. A minute later great interplay involving Josh, Cian Fleming, Conor O’Driscoll ended with a fine Pearse O’Neill point and Aghada were 3 nil up after 6 minutes. In defence Kalen O Donoghue, Jordan Tynan and Kyle O Shea were playing well, although Carrigaline were guilty of some wayward shooting when they did get chances. The South East outfit had points on the 10th and 16th minutes. In between Cian Fleming kicked a good free after being fouled himself. Aghada then went on a scoring burst of 3 points in two minutes. First Pearse got his second after a one two with Ronan Kennedy. Next Wing back Aiden O Connell charged forward to kick a nice score, and from the kick out Josh pointed his second. When Pearce and Josh both added their 3rd points just before the break, Aghada had a sizeable 9 v 2 lead at halftime.
Now it was Carrigaline’s turn to have the advantage of the elements. With the wind behind them, they slowly found their range in front of goals, and with 20 minutes gone the deficit was just 3 points, Aghada 11, Carrigaline 8. Aghada’s scores came from 2 Cian Fleming frees. Substitute Jordan Ryan did have a good goal chance, but the Carrigaline ‘keeper saved well. Carrigaline were on top by now, however Aghada’s defence kept them under pressure, with Jake O’Donoghue playing well at centre back. Josh lifted the siege with a strong solo run and pass to Kennedy. He in turn found Kevin O’Hanlon and he turned sharply and kicked a fine score. Aghada were now 4 points up with four minutes to play and looked favourites to earn all the points on offer. However Carrigaline had other ideas and a scoring burst of their own yielded points on the 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st minutes. Moments later the final whistle sounded and both teams had to be satisfied with a draw.
