Junior B Hurling Championship Rd 1- Aghada 5-13 v Watergrasshill 3-9; Lisgoold 22/7/2017
Junior B mainstay Alan Walsh was the hat-trick hero for Aghada as they clocked up a big with in the championship 1st round against Watergrasshill last Saturday night. The corner forward notched 2 goals in the 1st half and then 10 minutes into the 2nd half he completed his hat-trick. This third Walsh goal came soon after Paudie Wall had also rattled the net and it effectively secured the victory for Aghada. The 1st half was close enough, Aghada had good performances from Shane Wall and Kyle O’Shea at the back and with Danny Creedon splitting the posts on a regular basis, both from frees and open play, Aghada led at the break on a 2-5 v 1-5 scoreline.
Aghada really upped the tempo on resumption, and once those two quick 2nd half goals went in, they never looked back. Midfield pairing Aiden O’Connell and Conal Rabbitt dominated around the centre, while Richie Condon was very solid in the full back line. Despite the comfortable winning margin, Aghada ‘keeper Ciaran O Shea was called on to make 3 good saves during the game, which also saw John Connolly pointing two great sideline cuts. Marcus Leahy playing at centre forward scored the 5th goal after a good solo run to cap off a fine overall team performance.

No luck for Will and Ronan last week as Kilkenny defeated Cork in the All-Ireland Intermediate championship final in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Also special mention to Eoin O’Neill selector with the Cork Senior football team that just narrowly lost to Mayo in extra time after putting in an heroic performance in the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick. With Peadar Healy stepping down as manager after the game it brings an end to that managements term, and well done to Eoin for representing Aghada at the highest level possible over the last two years.
