Imokilly – Senior Hurling County Champions 2017
For just the 3rd time in history the Sean Óg Murphy cup is in Imokilly’s possession as they are crowned the senior hurling champions of Cork. This is a fantastic achievement, and a great honour for our us to see our proud Aghada clubman Fergal Condon create a piece of history by being the manager of this champion Imokilly side. For the final to be the 1st final played in the new Pairc Ui Chaoimh, only adds to the historic occasion. Two of Imokilly’s key forwards were also Aghada men. Left corner forward Cian Fleming scored a superb goal in last Sundays final, while outside him, left half forward Will Leahy hit 4 great placed balls to help “the stripes” to a hard fought win over a gallant Blackrock outfit. Well done also to the young stats men Oisin Counihan and Jack Norris, and also to Imokilly secretary Michael O’Brien. Huge congratulations to all involved from all in Aghada Gaa.

Intermediate County Final
So we now have two 2017 county hurling medals in the parish and on Saturday we travel in force to Pairc Ui Rinn to see if we can add another 30 or so to this total. The game is fixed for 6pm this Saturday the 28th in Pairc Ui Rinn. It’s the 2nd part of a double header with a junior hurling championship game down for decision at quarter past 4. Our opponents are Eire Og from Ovens who have amassed some impressive victories on their way to the final. For Aghada’s part, this has been a long campaign and Sunday’s final will be Aghada’s 7th game in the competition. We beat Ballygarvan in the 1st round, before going down to Sarsfields in the 3rd. From here we had impressive victories over Ballinhassig, Kildorery, Midleton, and then Mayfield in the semi.
Manager Colm O’Brien and his selectors Martin Hennessy, Brian Murphy and Kenneth O’Keeffe along with coach Niall McCarthy, will have the squad striving might and main to bring our 1st ever adult hurling County title back to our club and parish. The very, very best of luck to all involved. Do the club proud!
The current Lotto jackpot stands at €2,250. Tickets cost €2 and are available locally. The draw will take place Thursday the 26th in The Guileen Arms.
