Abernethy Cup Intermediate Hurling Championship – Aghada 2-11 v Fr. O’Neills 1-22; Killeagh 14/6/2017.
Aghada got back into hurling mode in a rematch of last year’s intermediate championship semi-final against Fr. O’Neills. A bit of a hangover from the previous Sundays football defeat was always a possibility and O’Neill’s took full advantage racing into a 6 point lead with only 10 minutes played. The Ballymacoda outfit remained on top for the 1st half and went in at the break leading by 8 on a 1-10 v 0-5 score line. The gap went out to 11 points at the start of the second half, before Aghada started to shake off the cobwebs and get into the game. Goals from John Looney and Cian Fleming, who hit 2-9 between them on the night, helped get the gap down to 6 points with 5 minutes to play, but O’Neills regrouped and held on to progress to the next round. Final Score – Fr. O’Neills 1-22 v Aghada 2 – 11.
