U9 & U10 Hurling League
The U9’s and 10’s played their last hurling league games before the summer break on Saturday the 8th of July. The U9’s were in action in Rostellan against Carrignavar. This was a very close contest, with end to end hurling and it was Aghada’s ability to take their points that proved the difference in the end with a victory for Aghada on a 1-5 v 1-1 scoreline.
Meanwhile at the same time, the U10’s were up in Church Road Blackrock, where they faced the Rockies on a beautiful sunny morning. Aghada dominated the opening exchanges and raced into a commanding lead. Slowly Blackrock came back into it and there was only 3 scores in it at half time. (no points or goals in this game, just scores counted). Blackrock took over in the second half as Aghada took a little power nap for themselves. However a couple of defenders and the goalies stayed awake to keep Aghada in it. It was all square when Aghada woke from their slumber and rattled off the last 3 scores of the game to end this 1st part of the league with a deserved victory, 14 scores v 11.
Players used on the morning – Jacob Harley, Andrew Murphy, Jack Buckley, Jude Devoy, Cillian Falvey, Jack Lenihan, Colm O’Donoghue, Emmett O’Keeffe, Cormac Walsh, Joe Connolly, Nathaniel O’Driscoll, Adam Lewis, Cormac Crowley, Sam McAllister, Eoghan Walsh, Cillian Scanlon, Cian Moore, Alan O’Reilly, Ollie Killeen, Tom Walsh, Alex Buckley, Richard Kelly, Thomas Hannon, Ruadhan Lyne.

Minor Hurling – Minor Hurling League Aghada 2-18 Lisgoold 3-13 played Sunday 16th July.
On a beautiful Sunday morning in Rostellan our Minors edged out Lisgoold with a two-point win. Jamie O Hanlon goaled on the first minute to get us on our way.Lisgoold followed with a goal on the fourth minute. Jamie , Cal Bawden ,Kyle o Shea , all pointed before Lisgoold got their second score a point. The game was really flowing with end to end stuff. The full back line of Luke Foley , Darragh Murphy and Ben Stafford, could not relax but defended very well. But were well covered by Craig Hogan in goals a very promising goalkeeper one for the future. Mark McCarthy , Conor o keeffe , Ciaran Galligan at half forward worked very hard putting them under pressure for the rest of the half. Conor getting one point and Mark getting four great points. Cal supported by Kyle OShea at midfield banged over his second point before Marcus Leahy finished the half with a burst from defence and slotting the ball over the bar from long range. Marcus was supported by the reliable wing backs Jack Norris and Rory Slye. Vince Rohan and Alan Hogan in the full forward line gave Lisgoold fierce problems making space great teamwork. Half time score Aghada 1-10 Lisgoold 1-6.They started the second half running at us but backs and midfield matched them well especially Cal Bawden who gave a man of the match performance. Oisin Counihan replaced Vince Rohan and Diarmuid Phelan came on for Ciaran Galligan 50min Robert Hickey for Conor O Keeffe.all doing well. Diarmuid got our second green flag when he plucked the ball from the air and hit the net. Alan Hogan kept running for the hour drawing their backs making way for Mark, Jamie , Cal and Diarmuid to add more points for us .This was a very good test for us with championship on Thursday 20th July 7.30 in Passage . Cúl Camp 2017.
What a fantastic week was had on the week of July 17th – 21st at the Aghada GAA Grounds for the annual Cúl Camp.
The boys and girls had a fantastic week helped a lot by the great weather for most of the week. The Coaches did a great job in keeping the kids engaged while improving their basic skills. All kids went home each day smiling and were sad to see the end of the week. Big thank you to the coaches involved. On Wednesday we had 2 visitord to the Camp. Cork Hurler Alan Cadogan & Aghadas own newly crowned Cork Rose Aishling O’Connor visited and gave great time to the kids for photos and signing Jersies and Hurleys. Alan also held an extensive Q&A session with the kids where he was put to the pin of his collar. We wish Alan the best of luck in the upcoming semi-final vs Waterford and wish Aishling the very best of luck as she represents Cork in a bid to be crowned the world renowned Rose of Tralee.
Also fantastic appreciation must go to the organisers Vera Terry & Gill Berry for planning and delivering a great week. A great deal of work goes into this and the Club are very appreciative of their efforts. Also there were numerous other people helping out during the week without whom the week would not have been as successful. I don’t want to mention names as I may leave out somebody but for all people who helped out during the course of the week thank you very much. Roll on 2018 !!
